According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) monthly subscriber report, Reliance Jio is the top player in the fixed-broadband segment. Reliance Jio’s leadership has improved in the home broadband segment in December.
The company has added 0.18 million customers to its JioFibre service in December, taking its fixed broadband user base to 4.6 million. Jio had a 17.3% share in the home broadband subscriber user base at the end of December. Jio had managed to defeat BSNL in November 2021 to claim the position of market leader. Jio had launched its JioFibre at the end of 2019 and managed to defeat BSNL in 2 years, a company that had dominated the segment for almost 20 years.
Moreover, Airtel has mananged to defeat BSNL and is now ranked no. 2 in the wired broadband market. Airtel managed to add 0.12 million new users in December boosting its user base to 4.2 million users. On the other hand, BSNL lost 0.13 million users to be dropped down to third place with a user base of 4.1 million users. Airtel holds 15.9% market share while BSNL’s dropped to 15.4%. In November 2021, the top 5 service providers had 98.68% broadband market share.
