Zomato CEO and co-founder Deepinder Goyal announced the launch of Zomato Instant. It is their 10 min delivery option which has been facing severe backlash fro the public and its own delivery agents.
Today, people live extremely fast paced lives which demand for speedy resolution and methods. Zomato instant is one step into that direction, one that none of its competitors have dared to tread around. Today, if you order food through Zomato, you get that food after at least 30 mins.
According to Mr. Goyal, the idea of Zomato Instant revolves around the following 8 principles: Affordable, fresh, high quality, hygienic, minimum plastic use, convenient packaging with easy consumption, traceable supply chain, safety of the delivery partner and greater collaboration with partner restaurants. Moreover, this system would rely on densely located “finishing stations” which will house bestseller items from several restaurants and use a sophisticated demand prediction software.
This plan has sparked severe responses against the company with people questioning the safety of the delivery agent. Many said that they can wait for food since ambulances take longer than that to arrive. Karti P. Chidambaram, an Indian lawmaker, tweeted, “This is absurd! This is going to put undue pressure on on the delivery personnel.”
The share currently trades around its lifetime low at a rate of Rs 80.90 per share.
